Ingredients:
அரிசி மாவு / Rice flour- 1 cup
( washed rice nicely & soaked
for 1 hr, drained the water, made powder in mixer & sieved)
வெல்லம் / Jaggery - 1/2 cup
ஏலக்காய் பொடி / Cardomom powder- 1/2 tsp
தேங்காய் துண்டுகள் / Sliced coconut- 1 tsp
( Instead of sliced we can take grated coconut also)
உளுத்தம்பருப்பு பொடி / Ulad dal powder- 1 tsp
( dry fry Ulad dal in a Kadhai till brown and powdered in mixer & sieved)
உருக்கிய வெண்ணை/ Melted Butter- 1 tsp
( Instead of Butter we can take ghee also)
எள் / Sesame- 1/2 tsp
எண்ணை / Oil - to fry
Method:
Dry fry sesame till it splutter.
Dry fry coconut pieces till it turns light brown.
Melt jaggery by adding water & let it dissolve nicely. Let it be like syrup. Keep aside.
Take rice flour in a bowl. Add coconut pieces, sesame, melter butter or ghee, a pinch of salt & cardamom powder. Mix it nicely with melted butter. Then add jaggery liquid slowly little by little and mix it nicely with hand to get a nice dough.
Keep the dough for 1.5 or 2 hrs for rest. Heat oil in a Kadhai. By the time oil gets hot, make smalls out of dough and keep it ready. While making balls it should not be pressed much. Lightly roll the balls.
Put small size of ball in oil to test the oil whether it is hot & to see it is not breaking in oil.
Then add 3 to 4 cheedai balls slowly in oil to fry in low to medium flame. We should not stir the cheedais frequently as it may disturb the same.
Fry all the cheedai till golden brown . Our Janmashtami prasad is ready for bhog.
